I have signed up and been paid to play test games for a multitude of companies and I actively practice my skills on my own time to help develop myself and at my core I am a gamer and have had a passion for this for as long as I can remember
Skills and achievements
Universities like to know the skills you have that will help you on the course, or generally with life at university, such as any accredited or non-accredited achievements. Write these down here. Examples can be found at http://www.ucas.com/personalstatementskills.
I have learned to adapt and pick things up quickly during my time working as an electrician as when I first started it was imperative that I was able to learn whilst being on the job and this skill has helped me greatly as when I first began my games development course I had little to no knowledge of programming but I was able to understand and learn the fundamentals of programming very quickly and then on show vast improvement over the year, the same job also helped me develop some leadership skills and the ability to work well with other professions in a seamless way
Also think about any other achievements you’re proud of, positions of responsibility that you hold or have held both in and out of school, and attributes that make you interesting, special or unique.
I have been a games play tester, I have worked as an electrician and been in charge of jobs, I have completed an electrician course at a distinction level
Hobbies and interests
Make a list of your hobbies, interests and social activities. Then think about how they demonstrate your personality, skills and abilities. Try to link them to the skills and experience required for your course(s).
I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember and this is what has given me my passion to do this course and I have always enjoyed sports such as football which has given me good team working skills
Work experience
Include details of jobs, placements, work experience or voluntary work, particularly if it’s relevant to your chosen course(s). Try to link any experience to skills or qualities related to the course.
I have worked as a domestic and commercial Electrician and this has given me confidence in leadership roles and being able to work as a team player and I currently work as a CA at Tesco which again has bolstered my ability to work well in a team
Mature students
Explain what you’ve been doing since leaving education, and provide additional evidence to support your application. If you’re not in full-time education, you should give details of any relevant work experience, paid or unpaid, and information about your current or previous employment.
After I finished college and got my qualifications to become an electrician I went straight into employment as an electrician and then after I left that job I have worked as a CA whilst going through my games development course
Future plans
If you know what you’d like to achieve after completing the course, explain how you want to use the knowledge and experience that you gain. How does the course relate to what you want to do in the future?
After completing the course I want to find employment in the games industry Ideally as a game AI programmer or a generalist programmer and I know this course will give me the skills and knowledge I need to pursue that career
Student Finance Code

My student finance code is 02 and this is because I will be seeking support from the government to help pay for the course
Qualifications

I added in all my qualification information all the way from school up until now its very specific saying all of the awarding bodies for every certificate I have as well as the grades and when I achieved them
University Choices

I have made three choices for universities and I had already researched all three of them before hand and have written about the pro’s and con’s of each choice and I would be happy to get onto any of these three courses, I know what grades I need/ how many UCAS points I need for each one so I know what I want to work towards this year to get onto my chosen courses
Personal Statement Draft
I am applying for this course because it will give me the knowledge and skills I need to help me progress and achieve in game’s development as a programmer which is the career path I want to follow as it is something I have a lot of interest in because I really enjoy problem solving which is a key responsibility of programmer and this is something I realized about myself back in school as I really enjoyed subjects like math’s and physics
Games in general have always been a huge part of my life and to have the opportunity to work in that field as a programmer would be incredible, there’s so much I want to learn like C# and C++ and all the technicalities of programming interesting and unique games mechanics. There are many areas of programming that I enjoy ranging from gameplay programming to AI programming and this gives me flexibility to have more options when progressing through the course in choosing what aspect of programming I want to specialize in. I have loved video games for a long time and to have the ability to create them myself and help deliver the experience I have had through games to others would be an honor. I am a logical thinker and have excelled at logical subjects in school such as math and science which is paired well with my problem solving skills which is quite an important skill to have when programming as problems and bugs will come up all the time which I would need to be able to overcome. During my previous year at college we worked on a project that really tested me and helped me grow my skills as a programmer for example I had never created enemy AI scripts before but in this project I wanted enemies to chase my player so I used Unity documentation and other research sources to help me overcome my problem and create the the mechanics I needed for my game
Through the last couple of years I have had the pleasure to experience play testing games and giving feedback to the developers which has given me an appreciation for the time and effort that goes into creating games. I gained an insight into the behind the scene processes of creating a game and how important team work is as all of the specialisms are required to work together to help craft the user experience they want, it also showed me the process of blocking out and how it helps game developers create functioning levels without needing finished assets giving programmers specifically more play time.
Skills I have that are going to help me on the course are what I have learnt on my games development course as theses are the specific practical skills I will need for the course. Another skill I have is good communication skills that I have developed through working and playing on a football team where in both of these I would be working in a team to achieve a goal and having clear communication is imperative to achieve this and the communication skills I have built up will help me through University and on into the workplace.

Previously I have been employed as an domestic and commercial Electrician and this has given me confidence in leadership roles and being able to work as a team player as I would be left in charge of some jobs and would constantly have to work along side other trades. I currently work as a customer assistant at Tesco which again has bolstered my ability to work well in a team as well as given me great communication skills.
After completing the course I want to find employment in the games industry preferably in a AAA company ideally as a generalist programmer as I have interests in more than one field and I know this course will give me the skills and knowledge I need to pursue those career paths.
