Specific Ideas Research

This moodboard is a collection of cyberpunk stylised cars to help me visualise what sort of design I want for the car in my game. A common vehicle design that comes up is the DeLorean and this is because of its ties to “Back To The Future” which employs some cyberpunk themes with the futuristic tech and colour schemes. I really like the design of the DeLorean as I think with the addition of neon lights and a more futuristic colour scheme its very easy to give the car a cyberpunk thematic. A lot of the designs are based on cars that we already have in present day just with updated colour schemes and small design changes to push them into the cyberpunk theme.

I have collected a moodboard here of some cyberpunk city interpretations and designs. A very common theme throughout theses other than the obvious bright neon colours is the city streets are quite crowded and littered with people and all kinds of other objects, this would make it difficult for my game idea based around the idea of being in a car and having to out run and kill robots before they catch up to you and kill you. When creating my level desing I may take some creative liberties and have more open space in the city streets or I will have the game set in an airport on the outskirts of the city that will be surrounded in open space but sill have the bright cityscape visible to the player.

This is a trailer of a hoard type game mode within Call of Duty that involves players fighting to survive against waves of enemies as they grow in number and in strength as the the rounds increase. This is somewhat similar to the kind of game I want to make as it also has the elements of power-ups being dropped to try and help the player which is another parallel to my game. I can use this gamemode as reference to what mechanics and gameplay elements would be successful within my game and it gives me some more ideas for potential things that the power-ups in my game could do.

This moodboard is a collection of level layout ideas for games based in a city. I really like the idea of having my game set within a cyberpunk city but the only I would have is the space confines I would have within a city space. with these design examples I can see it would be possible to have open areas as some kind of base points that flow together with narrower city streets and this would add a level of difficulty to the game giving the player a map to traverse whilst avoiding the enemy robots.

I have created another moodboard around robots but with this one I more specifically focused on designs that are more humanoid. I think the humanoid shape of the robots makes them more menacing because it’s almost as if their appearance is trying to humanise them when they are just machines. I want the design of my enemy robots to stick with the human form as their shape whilst also keeping their colour scheme relatively dark but have them highlighted by some kind of bright neon lighting on there design.

Here I have found a tutorial for setting up the spawning of the enemies in my game. In this video it is setup to spawn a certain amount of enemies over a specified amount of time and then after that time it will switch to one of the other spawners which have more difficult enemies. I will be able to follow this tutorial when prototyping my game for the spawning of my enemy AI as its not something I’ve attempted before in UE4

This tutorial is for the AI on my enemies and this tutorial shows me how to create a simple AI system will allow me to have my enemies chase my player. This tutorial uses pawn sensing to simply on detection of the player it will move towards the player. this way of setting up the AI is not necessarily sophisticated but it does achieve what I need of my enemies and when prototyping I will be able to expand on this to create a more refined system based upon this tutorial.
