Research – Audience

The age range for my game audience will be between the ages of 16-25 and this is because this age range on average will spend the most time playing video games a week which increases the chances of people playing my game it is also a good age range for the inclusion of violence and slightly more mature themes. I would focus on the audience being mostly male as the game will have focus’s on guns and violence which are typically more associated with the male gender. I would aim at the middle to higher class of social groups as they would have more access to different media making my game more accessible to that range of audience

In my research I found that there was almost a 50/50 split among men and women that play video games however only 5.5% consider themselves gamers and this is because a large portion of the female play base are mobile gamers where as a much larger 17% of males game on consoles or PC’s making them a much larger demographic to target towards. The 16-25 year old age range holds the largest percentile of gamers, the most popular game genres for males between this age range was shooters which is the genre I was planning on creating my game in.

Some of the most played games among my demographic are Halo 3 which is a fps sci fi game and this shows me and confirms that the fps genre is the most popular genre among my target audience which is something I will take into consideration when designing my game ideas. Some of the most popular films among my age range are comedies such as 22 jump street and The Inbetweeners 2 movie this tells me that my age range likes more comedic themes throughout there content so that is something to consider with the general art style of the game etc

The most popular social media’s among my demographic are Snap Chat and Instagram and this allows you to have an angle to target your advertisement, 78% use Snap Chat and 71% use Instagram. What this also tells me about my audience is they prefer their content in a pictorial fashion as apposed to text and what I could take from this is during the design of my game rather than having text to display the controls or menus I could use images to represent those things.

My demographic spends more on hobbies and electronics every year showing me that this is the ideal target demographic for a game, a lot of there shopping is done online meaning online purchasing and digital downloads would be important also advertising in an online space would greatly increase sales. In relation to my project however what I can conclude from this is my audience is tech savvy so when giving instructions on how to play my game for example I could be more relaxed and lend more trust into my player base to be intuitive and understand how to play the game based off of how I have designed it.

Favorite color by age group

As you can see above there is an overwhelming majority across all age ranges that like the colour blue and I can use this information to help create a colour palette for my game that would be appealing for my target audience, I would of course have to take into consideration the theme of my game firs but I can take into consideration the colours my audience likes as well, its also good information to have if I were to be advertising my games.

This is my profile board for my target audience I have included all the things I was able to research and find out about my audience and what I like about it is how visual the representation is as this makes it easy for me to come back and look at to help me keep my audience in mind, I did find it difficult to find all of the information I wanted for my profile board however I believe I have enough her to craft a game idea around that will appeal to my target audience. I will keep referring back to this board throughout the ideas generation and idea conception phases of my project so that I can keep the game idea and design focused on my chosen audience
